The Earth Science Gallery explores Nevada's geologic history from 1,750 million years ago to 40 million years ago, including a walk-through Devonian Sea.. Has an exceptional re-creation of an underground mine from the Comstock Lode. Also on display is America's largest exhibited Imperial mammoth (15,000 and 17,000 years old) found in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, and the battleship USS Nevada's silver service fashioned from 5,000 ounces (417 pounds troy weight) of silver from the deep shafts of the Tonopah mines and lined with gold from the mines of Goldfield. *

The museum collection contains over 29,000 photographs 3,000 books and area newspapers dating from 1869 to the present. The park is located seven miles south of Ely via U.S. 50/6/93, then 11 miles southwest on Cave Valley Road. Cave Valley Road is a graded dirt road, accessible by passenger vehicles from May through October. Annual Desert Treasures program (August-October) features a mineral/mining exhibit, gem & mineral fair and Friends of Mineralogy symposium. Fort Churchill was once a U.S. Army fort built in 1861 to provide protection for early settlers. It was abandoned nine years later, and today the ruins are preserved in a state of arrested decay. Twice a year the Nevada Civil War Volunteers puts on a civil war encampment at Fort Churchill. *
