Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of Minerals is to be responsible for administering programs and activities to promote, advance, and protect mining and the development and production of petroleum and geothermal resources in Nevada. The division shall carry out mineral-related policy for the Commission on Mineral Resources and advise the Governor and Legislature on matters relating to mineral resources. The division shall provide: an effective program of industry relations and public affairs, including information and education concerning the mineral industry; resources for mineral education, including support for the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering at UNR; a program to identify, rank and secure dangerous conditions at abandoned mines in a timely manner; efficient regulation of oil, gas, and geothermal activities and well operations; and a satisfactory mine reclamation performance bond pool.
